NYSAP’s most recent mission, called its “Global Initiative,” seeks to improve mental health screening and assessment in juvenile justice in other countries.   The initiative was stimulated by the adoption of the MAYSI-2 in recent years in juvenile justice facilities in 17 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Americas.   The MAYSI-2 has been translated into 14 languages.

In 2010, NYSAP launched an initiative to develop a consortium of researchers, in eight European countries, who are performing research on mental health screening in juvenile justice facilities.  Their objective is to share information and engage in collaborative activities that will increase our understanding of youths’ mental health needs from a multi-national and multi-cultural perspective.
