Register for our virtual Mental Health Training for Juvenile Justice Professionals (MHT-JJ) February 3-5
Looking for an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the mental and behavioral health challenges and needs of youth involved in juvenile justice?
Please join us for a three-day training for direct care staff and professionals in the juvenile justice system about ways to better engage and provide care to youth involved in the legal system!
From probation intake to secure corrections, juvenile justice staff are responsible for the day-to-day care of a large population of youth, many of whom experience behavioral health conditions or traumatic stress. On top of that, juvenile justice involvement can exacerbate a youth’s condition, creating a dangerous situation for both the youth and juvenile justice staff.
This training increases professionals’ knowledge of childhood trauma, adolescent development, and behavioral health. It helps staff develop an understanding of how these issues may affect youth-staff interactions and enhances skills that can help keep these interactions effective and safe.
Join this workshop for three sessions of connecting with others in your field, learning from experts on the intersection of mental health and juvenile justice, and gathering practical tools and take-home resources to incorporate into your work.
In three 3-hour sessions, this training will cover:
Features of adolescent development that predispose youth to risky behavior
Effects of trauma and other adverse childhood experiences on development
Common behavioral health issues among justice-involved youth
Best methods for building collaborative relationships with families
How to use effective behavioral interventions with youth in the juvenile justice system
How to take care of your own mental health as you do this work
